Rita Movsesian - Garlock

Rita Movsesian hat sich bereits früh der Musik verschrieben: Im zarten Alter von zwölf Jahren begann sie ihre Stimm- und Gesangsausbildung. Der Schwerpunkt lag damals schon auf armenischer- und arabischer Musikliteratur.

Auch nach ihrem Umzug nach Österreich blieb Musik für die Diaspora-Armenierin der Mittelpunkt ihres Lebens: Sie bildete ihre Stimme bei diversen namhaften Gesangspädagogen und am Salzburger Mozarteum in den Bereichen klassisch-westliche Musikliteratur und Jazz weiter.

Daraufhin folgten zahlreiche Auftritte im In- und Ausland, bevor Rita Movsesian mit "FLARMENIA" die musikalische Richtung einschlug, die für sie wie geschaffen schien: "FLARMENIA bzw. die Umsetzung dieses, unseres musikalischen Konzepts ist das wohl anspruchsvollste Projekt, das ich bislang in Angriff nehmen durfte." Für sie ist die Pflege der traditionell-armenischen Volkslieder ein besonderes Anliegen: "Mich beeindruckt vor allem die Volksmusik der Ashughen und Gusanen, beginnend bei Sayat Nova (1719-1795) bis Gusan Ashod (1907-1986) - diese Komponisten, Poeten und gleizeitig Sänger haben den armenischen Gesang durch ihre hohe lyrische Intensität und feine Improvisationskunst maßgeblich geprägt.

Bei "FLARMENIA" weiß Rita Movsesian nicht nur durch ihre Stimme zu begeistern: Parallel zu ihren gesanglichen Fähigkeiten bereichert sie das musikalische Angebot des Ensembles mit ihren Fähigkeiten Dhol, Tarabuka, Daf und Cajón - allesamt Perkussions-Instrumente - in perfekter Manier zu bespielen.

Vanik Avakian, Gitarre, Oud & Setar 

Darf man Vanik Avakian mit einigen, wenigen Worten beschreiben, fallen einem spontan die Begriffe Kosmopolit  bzw. Weltbürger ein. Der 48-jährige Armenier schloss das Gitarren-Studium am Mozarteum ab und unterrichtet seit 21 Jahren am Musikum Salzburg. 

Vanik Avakian verschreibt sich der armenischen Musik, der persischen Dasgah, arabischen Maqams, und der Interpretation dieser Klangwelten auf der Oud, auf dieser er das Publikum in orientalische Welten einlädt, begleitet von seinem Können, zudem auf Gitarre, Tar und Setar stets zu verblüffen. Zahlreiche Auftritte im In- und Ausland sprechen hier für sich.
Weiters hat er sich als Erfinder des weltweit 1. Nachhall- und Entdämpfungsgeräts für Gitarre, Violine, Viola und Cello der "Recitalbox" einen Namen gemacht.

Martin Kelner - Flamencogitarre

Lehrauftrag am Salzburger Mozarteum, Auftritte bei den Salzburger Festspielen sowie auf internationalen Festivals, Universitätsprofessor an der Wiener Universität für Musik, diverse Veröffentlichungen, TV- und Bühnen-Kompositionen usw. - Martin Kelners Vita könnte facettenreicher kaum sein. Aber der Reihe nach: Martin Kelner studierte Jazz und klassische Gitarre an der Universität für Musik in Wien.

Anschließend folgten Studienaufenthalte in Sevilla, Granada, Madrid und Jeréz de la Frontera bei spanischen Musikgrößen wie Gerardo Nunez, Antonio Jero und Juan del Gastor. Aus Spanien zurückgekehrt, setzte Martin Kelner seine akademisch-musikalische Karriere am renommierten Mozarteum in Salzburg fort: Von 1991 bis 1997 arbeitete er dort als Lehrbeauftragter, bevor er seinen Lebensmittelpunkt nach Wien verlagerte, um am Institut für Popularmusik als Professor für Akustikgitarre zu arbeiten.

Auch abseits universitär-akademischer Aufgaben war Martin Kelner mehr als umtriebig: Aufgrund seiner großen musikalischen Bandbreite - Pop und Latin gehören genauso zu seinem Repertoire wie Jazz und Flamenco - baten sich Zusammenarbeiten mit Musikern verschiedenster Genres an: Auftritte mit Francisco Araiza, Timna Brauer, Georg Danzer, Tony Wegas, Angeles Gabaldón, Yolanda Osuna Linares, Silvia de Paz,  klassische Konzerte, z. B. bei den Salzburger Festspielen  oder "Gigs" bei internationalen Gitarrenfestivals in Ungarn, Deutschland und der Slowakei sind nur einige Beispiele. Damit aber noch nicht genug: Martin Kelner macht Musik für Film/Fernsehen (ARD, ORF etc.), Bühne ("En Camino", "Goya Flamenco"), veröffentlicht CDs  und gibt Noten heraus (Weltmusik Verlag). Zurzeit konzertiert Martin Kelner mit seinem Flamencoensemble "Dunya" und fasziniert die Zuhörer Flarmenias mit seiner kraftvollen Gitarre.  (www.martinkelner.at)

Alexander Petkov - Cajón & Perkussion

Alex Petkov, geboren 1974 in Sofia, Bulgarien, ist einer der bekanntesten Schlagzeuger/Perkussionisten  der Jazz- und Worldmusik-Szene  Wiens.  Alexander stand  mit zahlreichen bekannten Künstlern auf der Bühne - dazu gehören  Joe Zawinul  und der bulgarischer Pianist Milcho Leviev.

Rita Movsesian committed herself to music right from the start. At the tender age of twelve she began her voice and singing training. Even then she placed her emphasis on Armenian and Arabic musical literature. After her move to Austria music still remained the focus of the Armenian ex-patriot's life. She received voice training from a wide variety of renowned singing teachers in the fields of classical-western musical literature and jazz. She continued this at the Salzburg Mozarteum in the fields of classical-western musical literature and jazz. There followed a great number of stage appearances both in Austria and abroad, before Rita Movsesian struck upon FLARMENIA and the kind of music that seemed to be made for her.

"Carrying out FLARMENIA and this musical concept of ours has really been the most promising project that it has been my privilege to undertake so far."

She is particularly concerned with upholding traditional Armenian folk songs. "I am moved above all by the folk songs of the Ashughen and Gusanen, starting with Sayat Nova (1719-1795) up until Gusan Ashod (1907-1986). These people were composers, poets, and singers all in one, and they left a real impression on Armenian singing with their high lyrical intensity and fine art of improvisation".

Not only does Rita Movsesian know how to inspire people with her voice as she works with FLARMENIA. Alongside her singing abilities she enriches ensemble's musical performance, when she adds to it with her skills on the Dhol, Tarabuka, Daf and Cajón, all of which are percussion instruments.

Try describing Vanik Avakian in a few words and what springs to mind are the concepts of 'cosmopolitan man' and 'citizen of the world'. The 48-year-old Armenian was born in Northern Iran in 1960, although he is an Austrian citizen, studied in Mozart's city of Salzburg (completing his degree in guitar at the Mozarteum), and currently still lives there. Vanik Avakian works as a guitar teacher at the Salzburg MUSIKUM, a school for music, dance and theatre. Further to this he has earned fame as a musician, to which countless stage appearances both at home and abroad will testify. Vanik is mainly involved in Armenian music, Persian Dasgah and Arabic Maqams, and interpreting these forms of music on the Oud, an Oriental short-necked lute. Taking part in FLARMENIA has allowed this talented musician to live out his passion in life. He leads the audience into the world of the Orient on his Oud and knows how to enchant and mystify on the guitar, tar and setar.

Flamenco Guitar

A teaching contract at the Salzburg Mozarteum, appearances at the Salzburg Festival together with international festivals, university professor at the Vienna University of Music, a wide range of published works, compositions for TV and stage... Martin Kelner's CV could hardly be more brimming with his assets. But to go through everything in order...

Martin Kelner studied jazz and classical guitar at the University of Music in Vienna. This was followed by study placements in Seville, Granada, Madrid and Jeréz de la Fontera, learning from the great names in Spanish music such as Gerado Núñez, Antonia Jero and Juan del Gastor. On his return from Spain Martin Kelner set forth on his musical and academic career at the renowned Mozarteum in Salzburg. There he worked as associate lecturer between 1991 and 1997, before shifting his life to Vienna to work as a professor of acoustic guitar at the Institute of Popular Music. Outside his university and academic activities Martin Kelner was also constantly on the go. Thanks to his wide musical scope - pop and Latino are included in his repertoire as well as jazz and flamenco - he has had the opportunity to work alongside musicians from a variety of genres. He has appeared onstage alongside Timna Brauer, Georg Danzer, Tony Wegas, Francisco Araiza, Ángeles Gabaldón, Yolanda Osuna Linares, Silvia de Paz; at classical concerts such as the Salzburg Festival; at international guitar festivals in Hungary, Germany, Slovakia or Austria - and these are but a few examples. And if all that wasn't enough, Martin Kelner does music for film and TV (ARD, ORF, etc.), stage ("En Carmino", "Goya Flamenco"), releases CDs (with Kylie Minogue, Christina Zurbrügg, George Nussbaumer, Dunya, etc.) and publishes sheet music ('Weltmusik' publishers).

At the moment Martin Kelner is concentrating on his flamenco ensemble "Dunya" and continues to fascinate FLARMENIA's audiences with his powerful guitar music.  (www.martinkelner.at)
